    As expected, the Maine Joint Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications gave a divided report (not unanimous) on LD 883 during a work session on April 16. The Committee voted 7-4 that LD 883 “ought not to pass.” Both the Senate and House chairs voted for the majority report.

  • TechAmerica Supports TPA Fast Track Trade Legislation

    TechAmerica supports bipartisan legislation introduced today in both the Senate and House by Senators Hatch and Wyden and Congressman Ryan. The “Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015” (TPA-2015) would renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which allows the administration to submit negotiated trade agreements to Congress for an up or down vote, which provides more assurance in the negotiation process.

    Yesterday the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed the Data Security and Breach Notification Act of 2015 by a vote of 29-20. We continue to support an effort to pass a federal preemption of state data breach laws to ensure that companies are subject to one notification requirement instead of a patchwork of laws – many of which are inconsistent with each other.
