Oct 19, 2023

Learners can earn CompTIA A+ certification, professional credential that opens doors to careers in tech

BOULDER, Colo. – Job seekers in Boulder County are invited to apply for a free online training course to prepare them to join the technology workforce even if they have little or experience in tech.

CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce, has partnered with Workforce Boulder County to offer training that will prepare learners for the CompTIA A+ certification exam, the industry standard for launching a career in tech in today’s digital world.

“The tech job market in Boulder is full of opportunities, good jobs with good salaries and clear paths for career advancement,” said Mark Plunkett, senior vice president, solutions and services, CompTIA. “Unfortunately, many people think they don’t have the right background, experience or skills to succeed in the tech workforce. Our training program can help them close that confidence gap. It’s the right time for Boulder County residents to start a career in tech.”

The 17-week live instructor-led online course combines covers both technical and professional skills needed for success on the job. Candidates who complete the program and become CompTIA A+ certified will be well prepared for a variety of entry-level jobs, such as service desk analyst, data support technician, technical support specialist, field service technician and more.

Millions of current and aspiring technology workers around the world rely on CompTIA for the training, education and professional certifications that give them the confidence and skills to work in tech. CompTIA has awarded more than 3.1 million certifications to technology professionals around the world.

Participants in the Boulder County program will learn the fundamentals of computer hardware and software and how to troubleshoot a wide range of devices, from computers to smartphones. All participants receive career service assistance, including resume and LinkedIn help, career days, mock interviews and job placement support.

Classes begin Nov. 14 and continue through March 14, 2024. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. MT each day. Applicants must be Boulder County residents aged 18 and older who are not currently enrolled in or attending high school or post-secondary education. A Wonderlic assessment and virtual interview will be required. Applicants who successfully complete these steps will be referred to Workforce Boulder County to complete a grant eligibility application.  Workforce Boulder County is providing tuition funding for those who meet grant qualifications.
