CompTIA chief technology evangelist to demonstrate unique cybersecurity skills required by Thai organizations

Mar 24, 2024

Dr. James Stanger to meet with financial institutions, universities and partners to spur cybersecurity talent development, strengthen defenses and create a cyber-safe workplace

BANGKOK – The critical need for new approaches to cybersecurity practices and a continued commitment to upskill cyber professionals are among the messages to be delivered to Thai organizations this week by the chief technology evangelist for CompTIA, the leading nonprofit association for the global information technology (IT) industry and workforce.

Dr. James Stanger will meet with representatives of Thai financial institutions, universities, workforce training providers and others to provide hands-on instruction concerning new cybersecurity paradigms to safeguard our digital landscape.

“Core skillsets now include threat modeling using curated data, AI-assisted attack contextualization, and enhanced pivot visualization. It’s going to be fun sharing insights and skills with cybersecurity professionals in Thailand," he said.

Dr. Stanger will lead several workshops on a range of cybersecurity topics, including:

Advances in penetration testing, a security exercise that launches a mock cyberattack to find vulnerabilities in an organization’s attack surface. This is sometimes called “red teaming.”

Enhanced cybersecurity analytics modeling and fingerprinting techniques. Often called “blue teaming,” this is where a dedicated cybersecurity team protects an organization’s assets by mapping security controls to business resources.

Threat hunting, a proactive approach to identifying and visualizing sophisticated attacks on an organization's technical resources.

He will also meet with universities and CompTIA learning center partners to discuss advanced cybersecurity topics, such as cyber forensics and artificial intelligence.

“With this visit, we’re continuing the work we started two years ago,” he said. “I’m excited to act as a catalyst to help future cybersecurity workers develop skills needed to protect the infrastructure, businesses and people of Thailand.”

Dr. Stanger has consulted with corporate and government leaders worldwide about cybersecurity, emerging technologies, open source, and workforce development for over 25 years. He has worked with organizations in a variety of industry sectors, including technology, government, healthcare, defense, retail, education, finance and others. He is a member of the Forbes Technology Council, and a long-time member of the AFCEA Cyber Committee. He sits on the ATARC Cloud Security and Future of Secure Work roundtables, the Aerospace Industries Association Data Council, and the APUS School of IT Advisory Council. He also leads the C3, a consortium of leading cybersecurity certification entities, such as ISACA, ISC2, and SANS GIAC.
