In early February, the Texas State Government Affairs Committee held its first Texas Decision Makers Dinner in Austin, Texas. The inaugural meeting featured Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar, Texas' chief financial officer. Prior to becoming Comptroller, Hegar served in the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate. Today, as CFO for the world's 12th-largest economy, Hegar is the state’s treasurer, check writer, tax collector, procurement officer, and chief revenue estimator. During the intimate gathering, member companies were able to speak to Hegar about the state of the Texas economy, anticipated revenue estimates and their impact on tax reform, and Hegar’s plans for the upcoming 2017 legislative session.
In addition to taxes, member companies were eager to speak about the Comptrollers role in procurement and state contracting reform in the state. Members discussed concerns about open dialogue between state agencies and vendors as well as the formation of the SLED Council’s Texas Procurement Committee. The next Texas Decision Makers Dinner will take place in April.
