Tech jobs market remains flat, but positive outlooks ahead
As the year comes to a close, the job market for technical professions continues to take a breather. Following steady growth in previous months, the tech job market is falling in line with the overall job market, remaining flat across all sectors.
Positive outlooks remain, however. There were roughly 84,000 new tech job postings last month. Among these were postings from employers in consulting, finance, manufacturing and technology hardware, software, and services.
Hiring for work from home (WFH) positions is also holding steady at about 20% of total tech job recruiting. The top WFH positions include software developers, IT project managers, data scientists and analysts, tech support specialists, and systems analysts.
Additionally, as Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to develop so too does the need to hire skilled professionals. Employers recorded nearly 331,000 active job postings throughout 2024 in recruiting for AI job roles and AI skills. This is a year-over-year increase of 71%. San Jose, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C. were among the top cities hiring for dedicated AI and Machine Learning (ML) roles.

Our latest tech jobs report continues to show a bright outlook for advancing your career in tech without a four-year degree. Across all tech occupations 44% of November postings did not specify four-year degree requirement for applicants. Among these roles that had notably higher percentages were network support specialists at 84% and tech support specialists at 71%. [1]
Employers are also looking for a range of experience from candidates. Data on job search trends by years of experience shows that 21% of postings required 0 to 3 years of experience, 27% required 4 to 7 years, 16% required 8 years or more, and 36% of postings didn’t specify a level of experience.
The top metropolitan areas for remote job postings in November included Washington D.C., New York, Dallas, Chicago, Seattle, and Boston. If you thrive while working from home and are looking for remote tech opportunities, software development, IT project management, and data scientist roles were among the top remote job postings in November.
