On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, voters in the United States will cast ballots in the 58th quadrennial U.S. presidential election. The following week, CompTIA’s state government affairs (SGA) team will head to Nashville, Tennessee, for its 2016 National State Government Affairs Meeting. This year, we’re happy to announce Jason Boxt and Tim Storey are joining us and will lead a discussion on the 2016 election results.
Each year, CompTIA advocacy members meet to network and hear from speakers on emerging federal and state policy and governance issues impacting the U.S. tech industry. This year’s meeting will be held November 16 in Nashville. CompTIA’s SGA team is a 50-state advocacy operation providing state-level legislative tracking, lobbying and grassroots support for the tech industry. As the only advocacy network of its kind in the industry, SGA has the ability to interact with local legislators, impacting an issue in any state on a moment’s notice. In addition, SGA regularly promotes policies that advance innovation and business opportunities that are in the best interests of the technology industry.
We are particularly pleased to host Boxt and Storey as leaders in national and state elections research. Jason Boxt is a political consultant and polling expert most recently with the Glover Park Group’s research division, which provides public opinion research, message development and issue advocacy expertise. Prior to joining GPG, Jason was the director of national advocacy at the Center for U.S. Global Engagement, and before that was the national deputy political director at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). At both the Center and AIPAC, he helped provide political guidance and to both cultivate and grow “grass tops” advocacy, encouraging citizen activists to become involved in the political process by engaging and challenging candidates for public office to more prominently and specifically speak out in support of those issues for which each organization advocated.
Tim Storey is director of leaders services for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). He specializes in elections, redistricting, and legislative organization and management. He staffed NCSL's redistricting and elections committee for over 20 years and has authored numerous articles on redistricting and elections. Every two years, Storey directs NCSL's effort, StateVote, to collect and analyze state election results. He has participated in, and led, studies of legislative operations for more than 30 state legislatures and parliaments around the world. Storey has worked with state legislatures at NCSL for over 25 years.

This year’s meeting offers a range of sessions, including discussions that explore the surveillance and encryption technologies debate, and consider the intersection of federal, state and local policies related to unmanned aerial vehicles.
