Before students dive into the Tech+ training and exam, they may be curious whether or not there is anything they can do to prepare. After all, this could very well be the first exposure they have to the tech world. And although this program is foundational and does not require any experience or prerequisites, there are still a few ways for extra vigilant and organized students to prepare for this major step toward a future in tech.

What is CompTIA Tech+?

CompTIA Tech+, previously known as CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+), provides the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills your students need to start their tech career.

With a certification in Tech+, students will validate their technical abilities, while becoming stronger candidates in the job market. They’ll demonstrate their readiness to take on challenging technical roles with confidence and raise their potential in the world of tech.

Why your students should consider Tech+

CompTIA Tech+ is designed to keep pace with industry trends and uphold our reputation for excellence. CompTIA Tech+ ensures academic technology curriculums remain relevant, comprehensive, and recognized, enhancing engagement and effectiveness in technology education.

Students gain the skills and knowledge required to:

  • Understand and manage IT infrastructure and computing concepts

  • Troubleshoot and resolve common hardware and software issues

  • Recognize and address basic cybersecurity threats

  • Grasp emerging technologies like AI and IoT

  • Pursue more advanced certification pathways, such as CompTIA A+

The step-by-step study plan for CompTIA Tech+

Studying for CompTIA Tech+ doesn’t have to be difficult for your students, especially if they use the following steps:

Step 1: create a study plan

Taking CompTIA Tech+ is a big first step in tech for your students. Maybe they want to see if tech is right for them or maybe they’re eager to get started in an entry level job as soon as possible. Whatever the case, their next step, with help from you, is to design a study plan that will work for them.

  • Do they have a plan? It’s always a good idea to be organized and prepared when it comes to successfully passing certification exams.

  • Do they need experience? Experience is always helpful, but it is not required for Tech+. Once they finish the training, they’ll be ready for the exam.

  • Do they meet the prerequisites? There are no prerequisites. Tech+ is a foundational training and certification. Once they complete Tech+, they will be ready to move onto other training and certificates.

All CompTIA Live Online Training bundles include CertMaster Learn, CertMaster Labs, and CertMaster Practice so they can reinforce what they learn in the classroom on their own time and ensure that they have all the tools needed to prepare for their exam.

Step 3: get exam ready

Once your students know more about the material and have maybe started to practice some of the skills, it’s time to prepare for their exam. It’s a good idea for them to become familiar with how questions are presented and get used to the added pressure that comes with a clock.

CompTIA CertMaster Practice offers a full, timed practice test experience, including scenario-based multiple-choice and performance-based questions. These are the same types of questions your students will encounter when they take the CompTIA Tech+ exam. This is a great feature that enhances the learning process.

Here are a couple of specific recommendations for CertMaster Practice:

  • Discover if they tend to be quick or slow when taking exams

  • Learn the average time each question takes to complete

  • Become familiar with the interface

  • Reinforce knowledge by using study mode (correct answers are displayed immediately)

CertMaster Practice gives your students the confidence they need before they go into the exam.
