The Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA) has put the Digital Apprenticeship Standards out for the first statutory review, and CompTIA is calling on its member companies, training providers and certified apprentices to share their view to guarantee digital standards are fit for the future.
We all work in one of the most fast-changing industries in the world, which makes it imperative that we take the opportunity to ensure the standards work – for our apprentices, for our companies and for our industry.
There are 12 separate apprenticeships covered by this review and responding is a simple process of reviewing the standard and completing a short survey form in response. Click here to find more information on Digital Apprenticeship Standards.
It is great that the IFA has put our industry at the front of the line with the first standards review. However, if the opportunity is going to be taken seriously, we need a solid industry response because it will be difficult to change until the next review, and little point in complaining if we don’t seize this opportunity.
Certification at the Heart of Digital Apprenticeships
Certifications should be the cornerstone of all digital apprenticeships. It’s a point that we at CompTIA put at the heart of our engagement with the education system, because industry standards enable workforce mobility as industry changes. Benchmarked standards – e.g. vendor-neutral certifications – means apprentices can avoid investing in training that is only appropriate to a narrow range of companies. Embedding industry certifications ensures that every apprentice gains the skills needed to be put into use by any employer in the industry.
Not only do certifications increase workplace UK mobility and employability, but they also increase alignment to global standards.

John Pritchard, director at Arch Apprentices, will moderate the session and will be joined by Shane Carpenter, higher apprentice, BAE Systems, and Robbie Lyons, apprenticeship skills and development leader, BAE Systems.
Hope to see you there, so register for the EMEA Conference today! And don’t forget, please take a moment to fill out the digital standards surveys. As an industry we can have a real influence.
