The California State Legislature retained funding in the May 2018 state budget revision for Governor Brown’s bold proposal for a new 115th community college to be offered completely online. The online college addresses a critical gap in higher education in California by providing access to skills, training and credentials millions cannot otherwise obtain.
The addition of medical coding and information technology curriculum pathways will further advance the needs of California’s healthcare and business communities and provide employees a track to be successful in two fast growing areas of today’s evolving workplace.
With the state and nation facing a large skilled labor crisis, the online college will enable the state’s stranded workers to gain the skills needed to remain competitive in the economy of the future. We urge lawmakers to see the governor’s vision to fruition by continuing to support this much needed approach to higher education. Our support letter is available here.
