Healthcare technology (HIT) encompasses everything from EMR, EHR, ARRA, NIST, ONC, HIPAA, EDC, and CRM to FCC, IRS, CDC, meaningful use and more. It goes on and on. When you add in the standard VAR vocabulary —3G, UPS, LAN/WAN, IP, HTTP, HTML, and ISP—it quickly becomes a virtual alphabet soup where you almost need a secret decoder ring just to begin to understand it all.
Once you begin to comprehend the HIT market opportunity, you quickly see that it’s more than a vertical market; instead it’s a market all its own. It presents an opening for a VAR to transform their business and take it to the next level. As a matter of fact, there’s bound to be an abundance of business opportunities in your own backyard as every area includes a vast array of doctors’ offices, clinics, specialists, and more. The challenge is to understand the terminology while implementing the technology. With that in mind CompTIA has embarked on an ambitious education program for HIT providers. The programs and content we introduced at Breakaway a few weeks ago is just the beginning of an ongoing learning track, which will also include a certificate program for HIT practitioners in the not-too-distant future.
The Breakaway content, including our 10 Week Guide to Healthcare IT and the Healthcare IT Workflow Overview, is now available to download from our Member Resource Center (MRC). The MRC is also home to several HIT-focused white papers, as well as video-on-demand content that is sure to help you in making sense of the healthcare marketplace. This is just the tip of the iceberg; check out the CompTIA Healthcare IT Community for ongoing learning and engagement. You can access this group through our Community Portal at http://www.comptia.org/membership/communities/healthit.aspx.
